On October 31, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (Acea) stated that due to a shortage of basic microchips required for the control units of automotive electrical systems, the European automotive manufacturing industry is facing an imminent crisis of assembly line shutdowns. Acea mentioned that the global automotive manufacturing situation is becoming increasingly severe. Although the industry is depleting its reserve inventory, supplies are rapidly diminishing. Sigrid de Vries, Director General of Acea, said that members have reported disruptions in component supplies due to microchip shortages, and assembly line shutdowns may occur in just a few days.
