Electric vehicles (EVs) typically boast a heavier kerb weight compared to their fuel-powered counterparts, primarily due to the incorporation of power batteries. Some EV models even tip the scales at over 3 tons, a factor that is not conducive to energy efficiency. In a bid to pioneer lightweight solutions for EVs, British startup Longbow has introduced the world's inaugural ultra-lightweight electric sports cars, tipping the scales at under 1000kg: the Speedster and the Roadster. The convertible Speedster model is a featherweight at just 895kg, boasting a 0-100km/h acceleration time of a mere 3.5 seconds and a range extending up to 450 kilometers. Meanwhile, the hardtop Roadster variant weighs in at 995kg and can sprint to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. Both models are crafted with carbon fiber bodies and aluminum alloy chassis, complemented by a streamlined powertrain and high-energy-density batteries. This design achieves an exquisite equilibrium between weight, performance, efficiency, and range.
