On Wednesday, General Motors Co. made an announcement stating that it will scale down its production of electric vehicles and batteries in the United States. To address the sluggish demand for electric vehicles, the company will lay off 1,200 workers at its Detroit electric vehicle factory and another 550 at a battery plant in Ohio. Moreover, starting from January of the coming year, the company will halt production for roughly six months at two joint-venture battery plants located in Tennessee and Ohio. This move will result in the temporary layoff of approximately 1,550 workers.
