By October 22, 2025, the tally of applications for the national car trade-in subsidy had soared past the 10 million mark. Specifically, there were over 3.4 million applications for vehicle scrapping and renewal, and more than 6.6 million applications for trade-in and renewal. This initiative has played a pivotal role in fostering a green transformation within the automotive sector. Notably, new energy vehicles (NEVs) have made up 57.2% of the applications, which has significantly propelled the retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles and expanded their market presence.
In addition to spurring green development, the policy has also elevated the standards of resource recycling. During the first three quarters of the year, 7.345 million end-of-life vehicles were recycled, marking a 47.9% year-on-year increase. This recycling effort has facilitated the recovery of a diverse range of resources and contributed to a carbon reduction of over 21 million tons.
