Recently, Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, made a bold claim on the social media platform X, stating that the Tesla Cybertruck had triumphed over the Porsche 911 in a quarter-mile race. However, this claim has come under fire, being accused of being a case of false advertising. Back in 2023, when the production version of the Cybertruck was unveiled, Musk confidently declared that the vehicle could complete a quarter-mile race while towing a Porsche 911 and do so in a shorter timeframe. Yet, upon closer inspection, it was revealed that Tesla had stacked the deck in its favor. They pitted the top-tier Cyberbeast model against the slowest variant in the Porsche 911 lineup, the Carrera T. In reality, numerous models within the 911 series boast significantly superior performance compared to the Cybertruck. Moreover, Tesla's official video of the so-called race raised eyebrows as it concluded after a mere one-eighth of a mile, rather than the full quarter-mile distance that was initially touted. Wes Morrill, the chief engineer behind the Cybertruck, further clarified that the true quarter-mile race scenario was merely a simulation and not an actual event. Numerous independent test results have consistently shown that the Porsche 911 handily outperforms the Cybertruck in a genuine quarter-mile race. Despite this overwhelming evidence, Musk remains steadfast in his original 2023 assertion. Meanwhile, Tesla has quietly revised its official description, omitting the phrase 'defeating the 911' and instead opting for the more neutral 'straight-line acceleration race' to describe the event.
