Renault is currently engaged in talks with Chery for a potential manufacturing and sales partnership in South America, with a particular emphasis on Colombia and Argentina. As part of this collaboration, Chery is set to contribute financially and provide product design expertise, leveraging Renault's existing local factories for production purposes.

Specifically, the Colombian plant will primarily focus on manufacturing fuel-powered vehicles, which will then be marketed under the Renault brand. Meanwhile, the Argentine factory is exploring the possibility of investing in a production line for plug-in hybrid pickup trucks, with Renault acting as the primary distributor.

At present, negotiations between the two parties are still ongoing and have not reached a conclusive stage. In recent years, Renault has been actively pursuing partnerships as a means to reduce costs and capitalize on market opportunities. For instance, it has already initiated a project with Geely in Brazil, and the potential collaboration with Chery will not interfere with this existing venture.

The current negotiations were initiated during the tenure of Renault's former CEO. Notably, Chery will be solely responsible for the capital investment in this proposed partnership. As China's leading automotive exporter by volume, Chery boasts extensive experience in collaborating with Western automakers and is keen on accelerating its overseas expansion. Its range of fuel-powered vehicles is well-suited to meet the demands of emerging markets.
