On the evening of September 25, during his annual address, Lei Jun shared the untold story of Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra electric vehicle as it took on the legendary Nürburgring circuit in Germany. Since its inception in September 2021, Xiaomi Automobile has been on a mission to craft the ultimate high-performance pure electric car. The SU7 Ultra project, however, faced a setback when it was initially shelved due to strategic resource reallocation. Yet, at a subsequent internal engineering meeting, the project was given a second chance.

The real hurdle, though, emerged from external quarters. Upon reaching out to Nürburgring authorities, the Xiaomi team was met with a barrage of 'read' notifications, but no responses. It was their meticulous planning and unwavering ambition that finally won over the track officials. After a series of unexpected turns, the team managed to secure a private testing slot, only for their plans to be thwarted by inclement weather. But perseverance paid off, and on October 28, they were granted a precious ten-minute window to unleash the SU7 Ultra prototype on the track. The result? A jaw-dropping performance that catapulted the prototype to third place on the Nürburgring's all-time official lap time leaderboard, while the production model claimed the title of the fastest globally mass-produced electric car to grace this iconic circuit.
