On September 2, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover, the UK's largest automotive manufacturer, fell victim to a significant cyberattack. This attack resulted in the shutdown of its global IT infrastructure and brought production to a standstill at several of its factories, including the ones in Solihull and Halewood in the UK. As a result, around 33,000 employees found themselves compelled to stay home and await further instructions. Initially, the company reported that there was no evidence of customer data theft. However, it later acknowledged that certain data had indeed been compromised. The hacker collective known as 'Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters' took credit for the attack.

The repercussions of the cyberattack were severe, delaying the resumption of production until at least October 1. This halt led to daily losses amounting to as much as £5 million, with the potential for cumulative profit losses to reach a staggering £120 million. Moreover, the global supply chain was thrown into disarray, facing immediate and pressing challenges. The incident underscored the precarious state of cybersecurity for corporations worldwide, prompting experts to urge for enhanced protective measures and more comprehensive insurance coverage.
