Panasonic has announced its ambitious plan to develop a cutting-edge, high-capacity battery within the next two years. This innovative battery is anticipated to significantly boost the driving range of electric vehicles (EVs). To achieve a higher energy density, the company is exploring a novel approach that involves eliminating the battery anode during the manufacturing process. It is projected that, by the end of 2027, the battery capacity will attain a globally leading standard.
If this endeavor proves successful, the driving range of the Tesla Model Y could see an impressive increase of approximately 145 kilometers. Moreover, Panasonic will gain the capability to manufacture batteries that are not only lighter but also more cost-effective. Prior to a speech delivered by Panasonic's head of energy technology, company executives shed light on the anode-free technology. This groundbreaking technology is currently under active research by several battery manufacturers across the globe.
