Recently, Wei Jianjun, the Chairman of Great Wall Motors, voiced his opinion in an interview, asserting that electric vehicles (EVs) ought not to be labeled as new energy vehicles. Instead, he believes they should simply be termed electric vehicles. He elaborated that, as long as the underlying energy source remains non-renewable, specifically highlighting that a significant portion of the electricity used to charge EVs originates from coal-fired power plants, it would be inaccurate to dub them new energy vehicles. He drew a parallel, stating that it would be just as misleading to refer to an air conditioner powered by coal-generated electricity as a "new energy air conditioner."
