On September 13, Chery Automobile celebrated a milestone achievement with the successful ignition of its Kunpeng Tianqing engine—a groundbreaking powertrain boasting an industry-leading 48% thermal efficiency. The ceremony took place at the Powertrain Laboratory of Chery’s Longshan Test Center, marking a significant leap forward in combustion engine technology.
This remarkable thermal efficiency was realized through a suite of innovations, including an ultra-high expansion ratio of 26:1, a dual-curve three-linkage mechanism, a 35% Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) rate, and advanced adiabatic coating technology. These breakthroughs not only redefine engine performance benchmarks but also position Chery as a pioneer in sustainable mobility solutions.
Designed for integration across Chery’s Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) platforms, the Kunpeng Tianqing engine will accelerate the expansion of hybrid vehicle markets. By setting a new global standard for technological advancement, Chery reaffirms its commitment to driving innovation in the automotive industry.
