On September 8, Reuters conveyed a significant update from the General Manager of CATL's European operations. The manager announced that CATL's state-of-the-art factory in Debrecen, Hungary, is slated to kick off production by the dawn of next year. This marks a substantial acceleration, with the factory going operational several months prior to the initially projected timeline.
The ambitious project, backed by a hefty €7.3 billion investment, is designed to boast an impressive annual production capacity of 100 gigawatt-hours. Beyond its production prowess, the factory is set to become a major employment hub, creating 9,000 job opportunities. Its primary objective is to bolster battery production across Europe, catering to the needs of leading automotive manufacturers such as BMW, Stellantis, and Volkswagen.
