On September 6, foreign media reported that VinFast, Vietnam's premier automaker, has made its foray into the Indian market with its inaugural batch of electric vehicles (EVs), positioning itself as a formidable competitor against the likes of Tesla and Tata Motors. VinFast unveiled on Saturday that its compact SUV, the VF6, will enter the market as the most budget-friendly option, boasting a starting price of 1.6 million rupees (roughly equivalent to $18,127). Additionally, the automaker will introduce the mid-size SUV VF7, priced at approximately 2 million rupees (about $22,659). This pricing strategy places the VF7 at roughly one-third the cost of Tesla's Model Y in India, yet it remains slightly above the price point of the most affordable model offered by India's domestic EV leader, Tata Motors. For context, the BYD ATTO 3 SUV starts at around 2.5 million rupees in India. VinFast clarified that the announced prices represent introductory offers, applicable exclusively to the first 1,500 units sold or until November 30, whichever milestone is reached first.
