On July 29, research firm Canalys revealed that smartphones assembled in India accounted for 44% of total US imports in the second quarter of this year, marking a substantial increase from 13% in the same period last year. India's total smartphone production surged an impressive 240% compared to the same period last year, Canalys noted. This remarkable growth is primarily driven by Apple's accelerated production expansion in India. It is reported that Apple aims to produce a significant portion of iPhones destined for the US market in Indian factories over the coming years, with the goal of increasing India's share of iPhone production to a quarter of the total.
However, Canalys data also indicated that global iPhone shipments in the second quarter declined by 11% year-on-year to 13.3 million units, reversing the 25% growth trend observed in the previous quarter.
