The Financial Times reports that the UK government is contemplating abandoning its contentious plan to compel Apple to create backdoors for accessing encrypted user data stored on iCloud. In February of this year, it emerged that the UK government had covertly requested Apple to grant access to all encrypted user content uploaded to iCloud. The government argued that such access is vital for law enforcement and security agencies investigating grave offenses like terrorism and child sexual abuse, maintaining that no other democracy has set such a precedent.
