A prominent Dutch consumer organization has recently initiated a class action lawsuit against Sony, alleging monopolistic practices that have inflated digital game prices by a staggering 47% compared to their physical counterparts. Since 2013, Sony has compelled users to rely solely on the PS5's digital console, effectively barring access to third-party app stores. This move has reportedly led to an additional expenditure of approximately €435 million by at least 1.7 million Dutch users. The plaintiffs assert that despite Sony's 80% market share in the digital domain, it fails to offer commensurate value for its elevated prices, thereby unilaterally increasing the financial burden on consumers.
