On May 28, tech market analysis firm Canalys (affiliated with Omdia) projected that iPhone shipments from India to the United States surged by 76% year-on-year in April, amounting to approximately 3 million units. This significant leap underscores Apple's intensified "Made in India" initiative. Nonetheless, analysts caution that this strategy may encounter dual resistance from both US President Trump and the Chinese government. Trump has vocalized his preference for iPhones sold in the US to be manufactured domestically rather than in locations such as India, and has threatened to impose tariffs on imported iPhones. Furthermore, the strained relations between China and India pose an obstacle to Apple's ambitions to expand its production footprint in India. Despite these challenges, Apple remains committed to lessening its dependence on Chinese manufacturing and shifting part of its production to India.
