Samsung Electronics claimed the top spot in smartphone sales across the African market in the first half of this year, and led both sales and volume in the second quarter. Even as overall smartphone sales in Africa declined year-on-year, Samsung still achieved year-on-year volume growth. Responding to local consumption patterns, Samsung introduced flexible installment plans and, backed by long-cycle system security updates, the Knox security platform, and an extensive service network, addressed local demand for secure mobile financial transactions. At the same time, the company carried out localized marketing through the Youth Olympic Games, driving its market share to keep climbing. Samsung is expected to lead the African market in both sales and volume share for the full year.
