On Monday, October 12, Google introduced its latest premium smart fitness band, the Fitbit Edge, which is priced at $180. This band boasts a 1.34-inch oval display, blending the functionality of a smartwatch with the portability of a health-monitoring device. While it bears a resemblance to a smartwatch in terms of appearance, the Fitbit Edge is tailored specifically for fitness tracking. Notably, it marks the first Fitbit product to incorporate a replaceable battery, providing up to a week of battery life on a single charge and enabling a day's worth of use with just a five-minute charge.
The Fitbit Edge introduces several innovative features, including automatic exercise recognition, an altimeter for tracking elevation changes, proactive health monitoring, and the ability to monitor insulin resistance fluctuations. Although the Health Coach feature within Google's app is driven by the Gemini AI model, the Fitbit Edge itself does not include a speaker or microphone, thereby precluding voice interaction capabilities. This sets it apart from the more costly Pixel Watch 5.
