On October 9, Huawei and Xiaomi simultaneously raised the prices of several of their mobile phone models on sale, with the highest increase reaching 1,000 yuan. Back in March of this year, OPPO and vivo spearheaded a trend of price hikes for domestic mobile phones. This trend then gradually cascaded across all brands, with the scope of price increases expanding from mid-to-low-end models to high-end flagship devices. Previously, Huawei had been shouldering the escalating costs of hardware components like storage by itself, a situation that persisted until its initial price adjustment in September. Following the price revision of the nova 16 series this time around, Huawei's price hikes have now extended to the mainstream mid-range market, which is priced between 3,000 and 5,000 yuan. The primary driver behind this round of price increases is the persistent surge in memory chip prices, which has significantly driven up the material costs associated with mobile phone production. Concurrently, the domestic mobile phone market has witnessed a contraction in demand for five consecutive quarters, further intensifying the operational pressures faced by manufacturers. Despite some manufacturers raising their average product prices, they still struggle to mitigate the impact of rising costs, resulting in a noticeable decline in profit margins.
