On the morning of September 10, 2026, Apple unveiled its inaugural foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, signifying its formal foray into the foldable display market. The device boasts a book-like inward folding mechanism and comes in two striking hues: Starlight White and Night Sky Blue. The base price for the 256GB model in China is set at 15,999 yuan, with pre-orders commencing at 8 PM on October 16 and an official launch slated for October 23.

To guarantee users a comprehensive and uninterrupted experience, Apple has embarked on a full-scale development of the software ecosystem tailored for the iPhone Duo. On October 6, Apple officially opened the door for submissions of apps and games optimized for the iPhone Duo, empowering developers to leverage Xcode 27.1 to recompile existing projects or craft new apps for swift adaptation. The inaugural Release Candidate (RC1) of Xcode 27.1 has been rolled out, facilitating developer debugging and adaptation efforts. It incorporates a built-in Device Hub simulator, enabling developers to preview app performance across various folding configurations and landscape/portrait orientations.

Apple has explicitly mandated that, commencing April 2027, all apps and games submitted to App Store Connect must incorporate screenshots showcasing the iPhone Duo model, encompassing both external and internal display scenarios. Older apps that have not undergone adaptation will still function, albeit with display performance contingent on the build version. To aid developers in the adaptation process, Apple is furnishing a comprehensive suite of resources, including design guidelines and template files, access to App Store asset management, specifications for app preview videos, and guidelines for model screenshots. Furthermore, Apple will be hosting a series of offline iPhone Duo development technology salons in the near future.
