On October 8, TrendForce's latest research on the notebook industry revealed that the primary risk for the notebook market in 2027 will shift from supply constraints to the impact of rising costs on demand. Currently, TrendForce forecasts a low single-digit decline in global notebook shipments for 2027. However, if DRAM and CPU prices remain high, brands may be forced to pass on costs to consumers, leading to higher end-user prices. This could potentially extend the replacement cycle for consumers, exacerbating the annual shipment decline to a high single-digit percentage. TrendForce pointed out that for mainstream notebook products with a suggested retail price of $900, the combined cost of CPUs, DRAM, and SSDs accounted for approximately 68% of the notebook's Bill of Materials (BOM) in the third quarter of 2026. This indicates a significant increase in the influence of core component costs on product pricing. Faced with rising costs, brands that raise prices risk a decline in demand; those that absorb costs themselves will face pressure on gross margins; and those that control BOM costs by reducing specifications such as memory may weaken product competitiveness. It is anticipated that in 2027, brands will struggle to maintain price, specifications, and profit margins simultaneously, with the extent of cost pass-through becoming a critical factor influencing market demand.
