On September 29, Huawei’s official overseas X account posted a recap of an international media roundtable discussion. During the event, Yu Chengdong, a key figure at Huawei, engaged in in-depth conversations with global media representatives, focusing on Huawei’s consumer business landscape and the evolving HarmonyOS ecosystem. He recounted his professional journey with Huawei, highlighted the company’s current workforce scale, and underscored its unwavering commitment to substantial investment in research and development.

Yu Chengdong emphasized that, since 2019, Huawei has successfully navigated technological hurdles by leveraging its domestic supply chain, significantly reducing reliance on U.S. technology. Presently, the number of devices powered by Huawei’s self-developed HarmonyOS has surpassed 90 million, with projections indicating it will hit the 100 million mark by year-end, accompanied by a robust and expanding supporting ecosystem. While several companies have previously attempted to create their own operating systems without success, Huawei has ultimately realized this ambitious objective.

Yu Chengdong also revealed that Huawei is contemplating a phased introduction of HarmonyOS to the international market. Notably, Huawei’s annual overseas smartphone sales are on a steady upward trajectory. Its wearable devices dominate market share both domestically and abroad, and sales of innovative offerings like TWS earphones lead the pack in multiple countries.
