On September 29, Yu Chengdong, the Executive Director of Huawei, shared his insights on Apple's foray into the foldable screen market and Huawei's standout performance in the foldable smartphone sector during an insightful exchange at an international media roundtable. He warmly welcomed the move by his U.S. counterparts to venture into foldable smartphones. Huawei had unveiled its wide-folding Pura X in the spring of the previous year. The larger variant, the Pura X Max, initially slated for a concurrent release, was delayed until April of the current year to prioritize the development of the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Notably, Huawei was the trailblazer in introducing the wide-folding smartphone form factor. Remarkably, within just a week of Apple's debut of its first foldable iPhone Duo, Huawei's Pura X Max experienced a remarkable 76% spike in sales, with cumulative sales soaring past the 1 million unit mark within several months of its launch. Yu Chengdong extended a warm welcome to competitors entering the market, asserting that robust competition will spur more users to embrace foldable smartphones.
