On September 10, 2026, Apple unveiled its inaugural foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. Pre-orders for this innovative device are slated to commence on October 16, with an official release following on the 23rd. Sporting a book-style inward-folding design, the iPhone Duo boasts a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal screen. It is powered by the cutting-edge A20 Pro chip and runs on the iOS 27.1 operating system. The phone supports split-screen multitasking, features an under-display camera, and is compatible with the Apple Pencil (USB-C version). Its hinge mechanism incorporates over 100 precision components, enabling multi-angle suspension, while the screen employs nano-texture technology to minimize the visibility of creases.

In China, the iPhone Duo's 256GB variant is priced starting at 15,999 yuan and comes in two elegant color options: Starlight White and Night Sky Blue. The device's body is constructed from Grade 5 titanium, with a Ceramic Shield front cover, weighing in at 254 grams. It also offers IP68 water resistance for added durability.

The launch of the iPhone Duo has ignited fervent discussions within the developer community, particularly focusing on its multi-window adaptation and drag-and-drop interaction design. These features present new challenges for the Swift ecosystem, including the need for adaptive layouts and efficient file operations.

Meanwhile, former employees who contributed to Microsoft's Surface Duo project expressed regret, noting that Microsoft's lack of long-term commitment led to its missed opportunity in the market. The Surface Duo series, plagued by outdated hardware configurations, inadequate ecosystem adaptation, and Microsoft's strategic pivot towards AI business, was ultimately discontinued in 2023, marking the end of an era.
