The UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal has recently issued a decision to reinstate a collective antitrust lawsuit concerning the 2018 cooperation agreement between Apple and Amazon. The agreement in question has faced allegations that it prevents independent retailers from selling Apple and Beats products on Amazon's UK platform, thereby stifling competition and potentially driving up prices. The court has decided to proceed solely with the claims pertaining to sales on Amazon's platform, dismissing those related to Apple's own retail outlets and other sellers due to a lack of substantial evidence. The plaintiffs have projected that the damages for the approved part of the case could amount to between £289 million and £306 million. Apple has refuted these allegations, asserting that the agreement is designed to counteract the sale of counterfeit goods. Meanwhile, Amazon has expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, maintaining that the remaining claims are without merit.
