On September 26, foreign media reported that a federal jury in San Diego, California, ruled on Friday that Apple Inc. had infringed on vibration technology patents owned by Taction Technology and must pay over $5.7 billion in damages. The patents are related to the haptic feedback features in iPhones and Apple Watches. The jury found Apple guilty of infringing on two of Taction's patents but determined that the infringement was not willful. Apple strongly opposed the verdict and the damages awarded, stating that it would appeal and emphasizing that its Taptic Engine technology is fundamentally different from Taction's technology.
