JD.com has recently rolled out the "Qixian Chefs" service, specifically tailored for healthy home-cooked meal scenarios. This innovative service is now open for pre-order in major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, boasting an introductory membership price of 19,888 yuan. The comprehensive package includes a state-of-the-art cooking robot, chef credits valued at 15,000 yuan for prepped ingredients, and a full year of AI-driven dietary analysis along with personalized nutritionist guidance.
After inputting their health data, users can enjoy bespoke meal plans crafted just for them. JD.com takes care of delivering the prepped ingredients right to their doorstep, while the robot handles the cooking with precision. Additional chef credits can be purchased at a cost of 1 yuan per credit, with dish prices on par with those found in first-tier city restaurants.
This service is primarily aimed at affluent families with a keen interest in health management, but also offers a premium version and modular solutions tailored for professional institutions. Currently, the service is in its pre-order validation phase, with specific rules and details still being finalized. Standardized equipment must overcome challenges such as the variability of family diets and kitchen space constraints.
Previously, JD.com has already made strides in the catering robot sector by investing in Xianglu Robotics, promoting its cooking and coffee robots in settings like Qixian Kitchen and Qixian Coffee. Rather than becoming a full-fledged manufacturer of catering robots, JD.com positions itself as a channel provider, scenario creator, and comprehensive service provider. It uses Qixian Kitchen and Qixian Coffee as testing grounds, showcases, and sales demonstration spaces for these robots.
By integrating robots, food supply chains, and instant fulfillment capabilities, JD.com aims to craft catering solutions that not only boost orders for its supply chain system but also bridge the gap between technology and products, propelling the robotics industry forward. However, JD.com currently lacks a vast network of established catering brand stores, with only a limited number of Qixian Coffee and Qixian Kitchen outlets. It must demonstrate that robots can indeed slash catering costs and that the business model can sustainably cover its investments to transition from an experimental phase to a full-fledged operation.
