Tom Maribu, Apple's recently appointed Vice President of Hardware Engineering, shared insights in an interview about the first foldable iPhone Duo. He emphasized that the durability of the hinge mechanism poses a significant challenge for foldable smartphones. To tackle this issue, Apple has fine-tuned the mechanical characteristics of the hinge's torque curve, ensuring steadiness whether the phone is closed, fully extended, or positioned halfway. The device offers two distinct half-folded usage modes: Seated and Standing.

For the display, Apple has implemented a matte nano-texture finish that effectively cuts down on glare, diminishes the visibility of creases, and masks surface irregularities that may develop over time. Both the inner foldable screen and the front screen of the iPhone 18 Pro are protected by second-generation Ceramic Shield, which provides three times the scratch resistance of its predecessor, striking a balance between scratch and abrasion resilience. Moreover, the model comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
