IFENG TECH, August 25 – Based on the latest data from global market research firm Counterpoint Research, propelled by the burgeoning demand from AI data centers, storage chip prices have witnessed a significant surge. This, in turn, is anticipated to result in a 4.7% year-on-year decrease in global flat panel display shipments by 2026. The escalation in prices of end-user devices has dampened demand across major application sectors, with the smartphone and tablet markets bearing the brunt. Specifically, shipments of mobile flat panel displays are forecasted to decline by 9.5% year-on-year.
Nevertheless, the IT market is projected to experience a relatively modest decline for the entire year, thanks to robust shipment figures in the first half, although the downward trajectory may extend into 2027. While shipments of monitor panels and notebook panels are expected to see a year-on-year decrease, the rate of decline has shown improvement compared to prior forecasts. In light of these challenges, panel manufacturers are intensifying their focus on high-end products, with shipments of OLED monitor and notebook panels poised for substantial growth. Furthermore, the automotive display market has emerged as a beacon of hope. Driven by the trend towards multi-screen designs in vehicles, the in-car display market is set to sustain its growth trajectory, with momentum projected to carry on into 2027.
