On August 26, data released by Counterpoint Research revealed that in the second quarter of 2026, Apple's iPhone 17 clinched the title of the world's best-selling smartphone, capturing 6% of the global smartphone market in terms of shipments. Notably, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro secured the second and third positions on the list, respectively. Both Apple and Samsung managed to secure five spots each among the top 10 best-selling smartphones. The top ten models collectively accounted for 26% of the total global smartphone sales, marking a 2% year-on-year increase. The standard iPhone 17 model continued to lead the sales charts this quarter, thanks to substantial upgrades that have significantly narrowed the gap with its Pro counterparts, thereby bolstering its sales performance. For Samsung, two models from its Galaxy S series made it to the top ten, with the Galaxy S26 Ultra emerging as Samsung's best-selling model this quarter. It jumped five places from its predecessor and also claimed the title of the best-selling Android model for the quarter. This achievement marks the first instance where an ultra-premium Android device has topped Android sales in the second quarter.
