The law firm Clarkson in San Francisco has initiated a class-action lawsuit against Oura, the manufacturer of smart rings, accusing it of exaggerating the accuracy of its sleep tracking feature. The lawsuit claims that Oura's rings are incapable of measuring the physiological signals required to assess sleep, relying instead on AI estimates that lead to inaccurate results. Furthermore, it alleges that Oura falsely advertises the ability to identify four sleep stages with an accuracy rate of up to 95%. The plaintiffs demand that Oura cease its false advertising, seek an injunction, and provide compensation to consumers. Oura responded by stating that it stands by its scientific research and accuracy claims, that its product utilizes multiple physiological signals to estimate sleep stages, is supported by several third-party studies, denies the allegations, and will actively defend itself.
