Recently, Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery service has garnered attention following an incident where a package ended up in a customer’s swimming pool. Amazon intends to extend this service to nearly 500 cities across the United States by the end of the year, a sixfold increase in coverage, with the goal of completing 1 million deliveries annually. Currently, drone deliveries can arrive in as little as 30 minutes; however, there is still a risk of package damage during the delivery process, such as fragile items potentially being harmed by high-altitude drops. Amazon has clarified that drone delivery is not suitable for fragile items, but users may not always find effective interception measures in place when placing actual orders. Moreover, drone delivery encounters challenges including noise, privacy concerns, and regulatory obstacles. Nevertheless, Amazon is striving to broaden its product delivery range through technological advancements and integration with robotic sorting centers.
