On August 7, Samsung Display secured approval to recommence structural work on the A7 new plant, located at its second campus in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Orders for the project are projected to be placed this month, with formal construction set to begin next year and completion targeted for early 2028. The project, which was put on hold in 2021, is now restarting after a hiatus of around five years, with an expected investment amounting to several trillion Korean won. At present, Samsung Display stands as the sole supplier of foldable screens for Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z series and will also exclusively provide panels for Apple's inaugural foldable smartphone. Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Z8 series have soared to 1.44 million units, marking a 38.5% surge over the Z7 series and setting a new pre-order record for Samsung smartphones. According to Omdia, the global market for foldable OLED displays is anticipated to expand from approximately $3 billion in 2025 to about $6.3 billion in 2030, representing a 109.5% increase. Samsung Display has previously declared its intention to invest 67 trillion Korean won in the display industry by 2040.
