On August 3 (local time), T-Mobile, one of the prominent mobile carriers in the United States, officially terminated its 2G GSM network. This action signifies the complete discontinuation of 2G services by the three major U.S. telecom carriers. Consequently, early smartphones, such as the original iPhone, along with alarm panels, payment terminals, and various IoT (Internet of Things) devices, are now unable to establish connections with mobile networks. T-Mobile clarified that it had given users a two-year notice prior to the shutdown and provided complimentary 5G phone upgrades. Users had the option to complete these upgrades either via mail or by visiting a physical store. The primary objective behind shutting down the 2G network is to liberate resources for the development of 5G networks and enhance the overall network infrastructure.
