Microsoft pushed the cumulative update KB5101650 to Windows 11 in July 2026, fixing a record 570 security vulnerabilities but also causing new problems. Multiple users reported that after installing the update, high refresh rate monitors experienced frequent black screens and disconnections. For example, a monitor originally running at 400Hz could not maintain that refresh rate after the update, with the screen going black every 1 to 2 seconds. Adjusting to 360Hz or 300Hz did not resolve the issue, and the monitor ultimately needed to be lowered to 240Hz for stable operation. On social media, many users, especially those with AMD graphics cards, reported similar problems. Microsoft stated that it has received the feedback and is investigating, advising affected users to temporarily lower their monitor refresh rates as a workaround.
