On May 7th, Beijing time, technology news outlet MacRumors cited Tim Culpan, a seasoned tech columnist and ex-Bloomberg correspondent, as disclosing that Apple is contemplating phasing out the most affordable option of its sought-after MacBook Neo laptop—the $599 base model boasting 256GB of storage—due to escalating production expenses. This strategy echoes Apple's previous moves with the Mac Studio and Mac mini, where it similarly streamlined their configurations.
In response to an unexpectedly robust demand, Apple has ramped up its production forecast for the MacBook Neo, elevating the target from an initial 5-6 million units to a staggering 10 million. To meet this ambitious goal, Apple is securing a fresh batch of A18 Pro chips from TSMC, a move that inevitably drives up costs.
