According to the latest report from market research firm Omdia, despite the ongoing shortage of memory chips, global smartphone shipments increased by 1% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 298.5 million units. The growth was primarily driven by manufacturers' 'supply-side front-loading' strategy, which involves pushing large volumes of products into the channel ahead of anticipated component cost increases to lock in costs and ensure supply.
