Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is developing a new variant of AirPods, which will incorporate a camera module “tailored for Siri.” Priced higher than the current AirPods Pro 3, which retail at $249, this new model may be dubbed the “AirPods Ultra” to distinguish it from the Pro series. The headphones will be equipped with built-in infrared cameras, not intended for traditional photography but for capturing visual signals. This capability will enable AI-driven visual interaction and gesture control, such as switching tracks and adjusting volume through hand gestures. The chipset may receive an upgrade to the H3, which would not only enhance sound quality and noise cancellation but also provide the necessary computational power for the camera and AI functions. The AirPods Ultra will be launched as a standalone new model, with a price point similar to that of the AirPods Pro 3, estimated at around $299. It is anticipated to make its debut alongside the new iPhone in September 2026. Furthermore, Apple is also in the process of developing a mid-to-low-end “AirPods Lite” to cater to the needs of price-conscious consumers.
