The introduction of the M5 chip variant of the Vision Pro has failed to reignite market excitement, signaling that Apple has essentially turned its back on the product. In October 2025, Apple rolled out an updated Vision Pro featuring the M5 chip and a more ergonomic headband. However, apart from these minor adjustments, no significant hardware upgrades were made, and consumer interest continued to wane. Since its initial release, the Vision Pro has been plagued by criticism over its exorbitant price tag and uncomfortable design, resulting in a lackluster sales performance of just around 600,000 units, coupled with a notably high return rate. At present, Apple has ceased further research and development efforts on the Vision Pro, with original team members being reassigned to other projects, including some to the Siri development team. The rumored lighter-weight model, known as the Vision Air project, was also scrapped last year. While Apple currently has no intentions of launching a new model, it has not officially discontinued the Vision Pro, and the M5 chip version remains available for purchase.
