Recently, Musk’s X platform has announced that its standalone encrypted messaging app, XChat, is set for a global rollout on April 17th, with its initial availability on the Apple App Store. The App Store in mainland China has commenced pre-orders for the app, which supports a simplified Chinese interface. This allows users to download and use the app without the need to switch to international regions. The app utilizes an end-to-end encryption framework, incorporates the advanced Grok AI large model, and offers features including audio and video calls, self-destructing messages, screenshot prevention, and group chats accommodating up to 481 members. No phone number registration is required; users can simply log in by linking their X account. Furthermore, XChat pledges to be ad-free and refrains from tracking user behavior data. However, its privacy protection measures have sparked debate, particularly regarding the retention of encryption keys and the collection of user location information. The release date for the Android version remains undisclosed.
