Data from Omdia reveals that in the first quarter of 2026, the worldwide shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations totaled 64.8 million units, marking a 3.2% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Specifically, notebook shipments amounted to 50.8 million units, a 2.6% year-on-year rise, while desktop shipments reached 14 million units, up by 5.4% year-on-year. Regarding vendor performance, Lenovo emerged as the leader with 16.5 million units shipped. In contrast, HP experienced a decrease in shipments. On the other hand, Dell, Apple, and ASUS all witnessed growth in their shipment volumes. This wave of growth was mainly propelled by early stockpiling activities, a surge in device replacements prompted by the cessation of Windows 10 updates, and the frequent release of new products. Omdia's chief analyst highlighted that supply chain pressures are mounting, with memory and storage costs projected to surge significantly in the second quarter. CPU prices are also anticipated to rise by 10% to 25%, which will inevitably put a strain on the gross profit margins of PC vendors.
