On March 30, Airbus’ cutting-edge ‘Bird of Prey’ jet-powered interceptor drone executed its inaugural live-fire mission during a demonstration in northern Germany. The drone successfully neutralized a medium-sized suicide drone by launching a Frankenberg Mark I micro-missile, underscoring its promise for anti-drone warfare applications. Built upon a modified version of the Airbus Do-DT25 target drone platform, the ‘Bird of Prey’ measures roughly 3 meters in length and boasts a wingspan of approximately 2 meters. With a maximum takeoff weight of 160 kilograms, it can attain speeds of up to 555 kilometers per hour and is equipped to carry as many as eight Mark I missiles. Throughout the demonstration, the drone autonomously carried out the full sequence of search, detection, identification, and live-fire interception, effectively showcasing the combat effectiveness of a cost-efficient air defense solution.
