As the lifecycle of Windows 11 version 24H2 nears its end, Microsoft has started pushing version 25H2 to non-enterprise-managed devices to prevent users from remaining on a system that will soon lose support. According to Microsoft's latest support documentation, version 24H2 will cease support for general consumers (Home and Pro editions) in October 2026, after which relevant devices will no longer receive security patches, bug fixes, technical support, new feature updates, or time zone data updates. Microsoft has confirmed that Home/Pro systems running version 24H2 and not managed by an IT department will automatically receive the 25H2 update, with users able to choose the restart time or defer the update. Currently, this change applies only to general consumer devices in non-enterprise environments. Version 25H2 shares the same foundational code as 24H2, enabling faster updates that typically do not introduce significant compatibility issues.
