On March 31, the Changying-8 large cargo drone, independently developed by China North Industries Group Corporation, made a triumphant debut with a successful maiden flight at Zhengzhou Shangjie Airport. It has now earned the distinction of being the world's largest cargo drone to have accomplished a successful first flight. The drone smoothly took off after taxiing a mere 280 meters, flawlessly executing key validations of various systems, including intelligent flight control and avionics. Throughout the flight, it maintained a steady attitude, with all systems operating optimally. The Changying-8 boasts a takeoff weight of 7 tons, a maximum cargo capacity of 3.5 tons, a range exceeding 3,000 kilometers, and a takeoff and landing distance of less than 500 meters, making it adaptable to deployment in complex terrains. This maiden flight represents a significant milestone for China in the realm of 7-ton-class intelligent unmanned transport platforms, laying the groundwork for airworthiness certification, mass production, and eventual commercial operations.
