Since March, there have been a steady stream of leaks regarding Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone. According to esteemed tech journalist Mark Gurman, this new model represents the most significant redesign since the iPhone X was unveiled in 2017. It is expected to feature a horizontally folding book-style design, boasting an approximately 7.7-inch inner screen and a roughly 5.3-inch outer screen. The iOS 27 system will be tailored to optimize the foldable form factor. The anticipated market release is likely to occur after the iPhone 18 Pro series, with a starting price expected to surpass $1,999.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that this model will forego Face ID in favor of a side-mounted Touch ID fingerprint unlocking system. Additionally, it will be powered by TSMC’s 2nm process A20 Pro chip. Foxconn Precision is set to be the exclusive assembler, while Samsung Display will supply the panels. Apple has placed an initial order for 7 to 8 million units, with expected shipments of 3 to 5 million units in 2026 and the potential to reach 20 million units by 2027. Market research firms believe that Apple’s entry into the market will signify a ‘critical turning point’ for the foldable smartphone sector, with the company projected to capture 28% of the market share by 2026.
