In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman disclosed that Apple is gearing up to unveil its first-ever foldable iPhone, describing it as the "most groundbreaking upgrade in iPhone history." While Gurman acknowledged that the iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X marked significant milestones, he emphasized that the foldable iPhone introduces an entirely novel design paradigm. The device is anticipated to feature a left-to-right foldable "clamshell" design akin to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, boasting a spacious ~7.7-inch display when unfolded and a compact ~5.3-inch external screen for effortless video streaming, gaming, and multitasking.

From a software perspective, iOS 27 will be extensively tailored for the foldable form factor, incorporating an iPad-inspired split-screen interface that enables seamless side-by-side app operation, thereby boosting productivity on the expansive screen. As for hardware, the device might sport a dual-rear camera setup paired with a single front-facing camera, ditching Face ID in favor of a Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded within the side power button.

Apple is rumored to announce the foldable iPhone in September this year, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, its commercial availability may lag behind the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Pricing is expected to start at $1,999 or above, positioning it as a premium offering aimed at tech enthusiasts and early adopters.
