On March 27, the 23rd session of the Standing Committee of the 16th Beijing Municipal People's Congress approved a new set of regulations concerning unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), which are set to officially come into force on May 1, 2026. According to these regulations, the entire administrative area of Beijing is classified as a controlled airspace for UAS, necessitating prior authorization for all outdoor flight operations. Moreover, the regulations establish comprehensive guidelines for the manufacturing, sales, and transportation of UAS, explicitly banning the illicit production, assembly, modification, or hacking of UAS and their components. Additionally, the sale or lease of UAS and their core parts to entities or individuals within Beijing's administrative boundaries is prohibited. The transportation or carrying of UAS and their core components into Beijing is also forbidden, with the exception of existing UAS that have undergone real-name registration and information verification, and are being transported by their owners.
