Apple has officially ceased sales of the Mac Pro and removed it from its online store, with no immediate plans to launch a follow-up model. The Mac Studio has stepped in as Apple’s premier desktop choice for professionals. Powered by the M3 Ultra chip, the Mac Studio is anticipated to receive an upgrade to the M5 Ultra chip later in the year. The Mac Pro received its last update in 2023, and its design has remained consistent since 2019. Given its steep starting price, it failed to capture a broad market appeal. The Mac Pro’s downfall can be traced back to the 2013 “trash can” design iteration, which was plagued by cooling issues and the elimination of PCIe slots—a move that Apple later acknowledged with an apology. In 2019, Apple attempted a course correction by reintroducing a traditional tower form factor with eight PCIe slots. However, over the past 13 years, only three distinct generations of the Mac Pro have been released. Presently, visiting the Mac Pro (M2 Ultra) product page on Apple’s Chinese website redirects users to the general Mac purchasing page.
