Microsoft is testing a new update experience for Windows 11, featuring a new function that allows users to pause system updates indefinitely, avoiding 'forced restarts'. Previously, forced updates were a major pain point for users of the Windows 11 system, as regular users could only pause updates for a maximum of five weeks, and updates would be forcibly installed once the download was complete. Microsoft has promised to no longer let forced updates 'ambush' users, with the update mechanism adjusted to a 'single monthly restart', resulting in less disruptive and more reliable updates with clearer progress indicators. The new mechanism reduces work interruptions, includes built-in recovery functions, and allows users to manually choose to update ahead of schedule.
